About Iron Rabbit

Iron Rabbit came about as I am a Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac and it seemed fitting for my business name.

How I began

Many years ago I started attending TAFE (College) & private courses in Blacksmithing, I have made everything from gates, candle stick holders, fire pokers to axes and knives. I was fortunate to attend another TAFE course in Cairns where I live and it sparked my interest again. I decided to take the twelve months in 2021 to prepare and build my own forge and start practicing.

I plan to sell items I make locally and via web purchases and ship to where required. All items are hand made and each will be unique!

I am often at the (QLD) Cairns Pier Markets, third Sunday of the Month: 9am to 2pm. Come and say hello. Updates on my facebook page, click the facebook icon to visit.

Here are some examples of my past work.

Iron Care

Most of my iron work is waxed while its hot so the dark patina is a result of the wax protecting the iron work. I also use linseed oil so to maintain your new iron work use any type of vegetable based oil such as olive oil. If your iron work has a shiny surface such as the letter openers then i would recommend that a metal polish be applied to keep the surface shiny and avoid rusting. For outdoor products i use a spray on zinc cold galvanising paint, but for a longer life store undercover. Most of all these iron products are to be used and enjoyed the more you use them the less rust will develop!
